In 1749 the noted London physician Richard Brocklesby published his "Reflections on Antient [sic] and Modern Musick" arguing music could be a link between the body and soul and could therefore restore intrinsic harmony. His essay is still used in research today. In the realm of cancer treatment, music has been shown to reduce pain, improve mood, and enhance overall quality of life for patients undergoing treatment.
